2024 C&L Award Winner Announcement.

Winnipeg, MB, March 1, 2024—Jill Officer, will be honoured by District 64 Toastmasters of Manitoba, NW Ontario and NW Minnesota for her achievement in the field of communication and leadership. The event will be held on Saturday April 27, 2024 at 12pm at the Alt Hotel in Winnipeg, MB.

To be recognized as a leader in our community and communications contributor is an honour for a few reasons. First, having graduated from Creative Communications at Red River College in 2001, I understand the importance of clear and accurate communication. While I do not specifically work in communications anymore, it is an education that has and always will serve me well and I appreciate being recognized as a communicator. Also, through my time on an elite curling team to now working in the curling community, it is evident to me how significant communication is to being a leader. I have not always looked at myself as a leader, but always knew I was a communicator and I think that is one of my more glowing attributes. So to be recognized for both really is amazing. says Officer.

Officer’s communication achievements include, previously a reporter for a TV station in Brandon, MB as well as CBC Sports. She is a freelance writer, writing for The Curling News. Been a RBC Olympian, undertaking speaking engagements on behalf of Royal Bank of Canada. She studied Communications and Journalism/Broadcasting at Red River College to name a few achievements.

Aside from being a huge fan, I selected Jill Officer as my recipient for the Communication & Leadership award this year for multiple reasons. Her excellence as an athlete and the communication and leadership she displayed on the ice over her 23 years as a curler was one reason. Secondly was her off-ice leadership being elected to the World Curling Federation Athletes Commission and election to the chair of that commission in 2022. Thirdly is her broadcasting career with CBC Sports. She is the voice of thousands of athletes, says David Storey, District 64 Director for Toastmasters.

The Toastmasters’ Communication Achievement Award is for a non-Toastmasters member, someone outside a Toastmasters club, either in the community or an organization—a distinguished individual in the fields of communication or leadership.
